When I was a kid, I told my mom I wanted socks the color of the sky just before the stars came out. (She tried to find me some, which were a little green, but close. Thanks mom!) Years later, I discovered the cream-colored sweater she is wearing in this photo, with an old boyfriend, and perhaps his preoccupied father in the foreground, circa 1970ish.
I wore it a lot as a teenager and into my 20s, until its stains darkened with age, and its coloring began to resemble a bruised banana. For this month’s Closet Case Study at the Cut – Adventures in Custom Dyeing – the sweater has been resurrected. I learned a lot doing this story, and would absolutely recommend Metro Custom Dyeing to married ladies who’d like to wear their wedding dresses again. The ombré job I mention in the story was miraculous — as is my new cardigan. Read all about it at the Cut!
